Coach Prime drops 1-word response to Shedeur Sanders' omission from the Heisman finalist list

The list of Heisman Trophy finalists has been revealed, and Shedeur Sanders is not among the select group. Travis Hunter, Ashton Jeanty, Cameron Ward, and Dillon Gabriel have a chance to win the award, with Hunter and Jeanty the favorites.

Sanders became the first Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner since 2019 not to be named a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

When a fan posted this fact to X (formerly Twitter), Shedeur's father and Colorado coach, Deion Sanders, had a simple yet powerful reaction.

"Wow!!"

Shedeur Sanders recorded 3926 passing yards, with 35 touchdowns and eight interceptions this season. He had a QBR of 78.2, 17th among signal-callers in the nation.

Shedeur ended third in total yardage by any quarterback, behind Syracuse's Kyle McCord and Miami's Cameron Ward, and had the second most touchdowns behind Ward. He also had the best completion percentage of all quarterbacks, excluding Florida's Graham Mertz, who was out for most of the season.

Shedeur Sanders receives the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award

On Dec. 6, Shedeur Sanders received the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, becoming the first-ever Colorado player to achieve the feat.

"I just want to thank God for this opportunity," Shedeur said after receiving the award. "... I am very excited (about) being recognized as the best quarterback in college football and this award means a lot to me."

The trophy is given annually to the best upperclassman quarterback in the country. In 2024, Shedeur led the Colorado Buffaloes to a 9-3 overall record. This was the Buffs' first winning season since 2016 and their first with a bowl invitation since 2020. In the process, Shedeur also set the single-season school passing yardage record.

The No. 23 Colorado Buffaloes will play the No. 17 BYU Cougars in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28.
