Coach Prime follows Deion Sanders Jr. footsteps to flex on Colorado's big achievement after Cincinnati win
Colorado coach Deion Sanders Sr. appeared to follow in the footsteps of his eldest son, Deion Sanders Jr. when he flaunted the Buffaloes' big achievement of getting back-to-back season rankings for the first time in 21 years. After Week 9, Colorado is now ranked No. 23 on AP’s Top 25 ranking, which was in the aftermath of a 34-23 win against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday.
Coach Prime posted the achievement on his Instagram story to promote Colorado, much like Sanders Jr. has been doing this season.
Colorado was in the AP Top 25 rankings in the early stages of the 2023 season. The Buffaloes were ranked 19th in the AP Poll before losing to Oregon in Week 4 last year. They eventually struggled for the rest of the season and finished with a disappointing 4-8 record.
However, this season, Colorado has already won six games and secured a bowl berth after Week 9. The Buffaloes have also got a few Heisman contenders this year in quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter.
Deion Sanders' Colorado will aim to sneak into College Football Playoff this season
No. 23 Colorado is currently fourth in the Big 12 standings and boasts a strong 6-2 record (4-1 in Big 12) heading into Week 10 of the 2024 season. However, Sanders' team will eye a spot in the College Football Playoff, which will feature 12 teams this season.
As things stand, Colorado can sneak into the playoffs if other top teams ahead of them suffer defeats in the coming weeks. However, the Buffaloes will be aware that they also cannot afford to lose any more regular-season games to remain in the hunt for the postseason.
Here's a look at Colorado's schedule for the remainder of the season:
- Nov. 2: Open week
- Nov. 9: at Texas Tech
- Nov. 16: vs. Utah
- Nov. 23: at Kansas
- Nov. 29: vs. Oklahoma State
