Colorado Buffaloes safety Shilo Sanders has received heartfelt encouragement from his family ahead of their Week 12 showdown against the Utah Utes. His sister, Deiondra Sanders, and grandmom, Connie Knight, showed their support on social media, resharing posts and stories hyping up Shilo’s contributions.
Colorado’s official Instagram page added a post for safety Shilo, with an hourglass emoji in the caption, representing their readiness as they wait for the showdown.

This season, Shilo has been striving to prove himself on the field under the ever-watchful eye of his father, head coach Deion Sanders. After a tough Week 7 game against Kansas State, where Shilo’s mistakes proved costly, critics didn’t hold back. Shilo didn’t let the setback define him, though.
He returned to face Arizona with renewed focus and determination, logging four tackles and providing the spark his team needed in a dominant 34-7 victory. Against Texas Tech, the Buffs defender scored a scoop-six touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
Shilo Sanders dealing with bankruptcy case
Shilo Sanders, the son of Colorado football coach Deion Sanders and a safety for the Colorado Buffaloes, is facing a serious financial challenge off the field. A federal judge recently heard arguments in Shilo’s bankruptcy case. Sanders is attempting to discharge over $11 million in debt owed to John Darjean, a former security guard at his school.
This debt stems from a 2015 incident when Shilo, then 15, allegedly injured Darjean in a physical altercation, leading to a judgment against him in a Texas court. Judge Michael Romero acknowledged the complexity of determining Shilo's intent during the incident in the latest hearing on November 7. Romero questioned Sanders’ attorney, saying (via USA Today):
“If I deny the motion for summary judgment and we have a trial, don’t you agree it’s only on the mental state that existed at the time?”
The judge hinted that Shilo Sanders’ mental state during the incident could become the deciding factor if the case proceeds to trial.
In 2022, a Texas court issued an $11.89 million default judgment against Shilo after he failed to appear for the trial. Darjean’s attorney, Ori Raphael, argued that the Texas court’s findings indicate a “willful and malicious” intent on Shilo’s part, even though those specific words were not used in the judgment
However, Shilo Sanders’ legal team argues that the debt should still be dischargeable without explicit proof of “willful and malicious” intent. If the judge ultimately rules that the debt is non-dischargeable, Shilo must pay the full amount.
