College football insider hints at Brian Kelly's reunion with former Notre Dame star defensive lineman Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa
Brian Kelly is preparing to enter his third season as head coach of the LSU Tigers. After back-to-back ten win seasons, the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach is reportedly set to reunite with Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa, who played under Kelly in his final five seasons with the Fighting Irish.
Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports shared that the former defensive lineman is joining his former coach's staff as a defensive line graduate assistant, tweeting:
"Ex-Notre Dame star defensive lineman Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa is joining the LSU staff as a defensive line graduate assistant, a source tells @247sports . Reunites him with his college head coach, Brian Kelly. Was a team captain for Kelly at Notre Dame in 2021."
Check out Matt Zenitz's tweet on Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa joining the LSU Tigers staff below:
Tagovailoa-Amosa spent five years playing under Kelly with the Fighting Irish, recording 79 total tackles, 17.0 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, one defensive touchdown and two passes defended.
At just 25 years old - and with experience in the system - he will likely have a strong voice as he can relate to the players while helping them progress. It will mark his first coaching opportunity.
Brian Kelly reportedly has a $60 million buyout clause if he is fired
Stewart Mandel of The Athletic recently held a Q&A in which he was asked if LSU Tigers coach Brian Kelly or USC Trojans coach Lincoln Riley had a hotter seat. The college football insider shared that neither coach is on the hot seat before adding:
"Kelly has won 10 games each of his first two seasons and currently has a commitment from the No. 1 recruit in the 2025 class, QB Bryce Underwood. Riley is a season removed from going 11-3 and reaching the Pac-12 Championship Game.
"And then there are the buyouts. Kelly’s will be around $60 million after this season. Riley’s is not public, but given his reported $10 million salary in 2022 was around the same as Kelly’s, his buyout is likely just as much if not more. Of the two, LSU’s boosters might be crazy enough to write that check, but I can’t imagine it comes to that. Unless the Tigers go 3-9, at which point all bets are off." [h/t The Athletic]
While the Texas A&M Aggies recently bought out Jimbo Fisher's contract for $77.5 million, he spent nearly six years on the job. Furthermore, he failed to win ten games throughout his tenure, which Brian Kelly has done in each of his first two seasons.
