Colorado HC Deion Sanders draws bold comparisons between Travis Hunter and CFB legends
Deion Sanders has known Travis Hunter very well during his collegiate career. The five-star prospect and top-ranked overall recruit in the 2022 recruiting class joined the Jackson State Tigers to play under the College and Pro Football Hall of Famer. He became the first five-star prospect in NCAA history to join an HBCU or FCS program.
As a true freshman, he recorded 18 receptions for 190 yards and four touchdowns on the offensive end and 20 tackles, two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown, one fumble recovery and ten passes defended on the defensive end. After the season, Hunter followed Sanders to the Colorado Buffaloes.
There were plenty of questions about how his performance would translate, however, 'Prime Time' made it clear that his two-way star should be mentioned in the same breath as two-way legends Charles Woodson and Champ Bailey. Hayes Fawcett shared Sanders' comments, tweeting:
"Colorado HC Deion Sanders on Travis Hunter: “He’s something we haven’t seen in college football. Charles Woodson was HIM, Champ Bailey was HIM, those guys are unbelievable… but (Travis) he’s the best WR in college football and he’s the best CB in college football.”

Hunter will look to build on an impressive first season of FBS play. He finished with 57 receptions for 721 yards, five touchdowns, 30 tackles, three interceptions and five passes defended. He was named a Consensus All-American.
Deion Sanders claims Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders could be top-two picks in the 2025 NFL Draft
Deion Sanders has continuously heaped praises on both Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders. 'Coach Prime' believes they could be the first two players off the board in the 2025 NFL Draft during a recent interview with Pete Thamel of ESPN, stating:
"They could be one and two, based on need and desire from the league. They could be one and two. I don’t see many flaws, if there’s any flaw in their games. They don’t give a darn about that, though. What they want to do is win. They want to win and they want to go out winners."

Despite the Buffaloes finishing the 2023 season with a 4-8 record, both Hunter and Sanders played at a high level. The program worked to revamp their offensive line and defense in the offseason.
