Colorado QB Kaidon Salter sets his expectations straight as Colorado gets used to life without Shedeur Sanders & Co.
Shedeur Sanders is now bound for the NFL along with a few of his teammates, leaving Colorado to usher in a new chapter with a strong replacement in Kaidon Salter.
Though the quarterback battle in Boulder might be building up as Shedeur leaves behind massive shoes to fill, Salter, a proven transfer from Liberty Flames, let the world know that he is up for the challenge. Colorado and Salter are eager to take the reins of an offense that captured national attention last season.
Kaidon Salter outlined his expectations for the season and sent the team a strong message.
"New man on campus. Gonna handle business. And we gonna go win that Big 12 Championship," he confidently declared.
Besides Salter, another new face vying for the spotlight at Boulder is Julian Lewis, a five-star freshman sensation. While Lewis packs raw talent and youthful ambition, Kaidon Salter brings experience, having excelled at the Group of Five level with Liberty.
Boulder is looking forward to the Kaidon Salter vs Julian Lewis competition
The Colorado Buffaloes have come a long way. The program's transformation under Prime has been remarkable, from a single win just two seasons ago to an impressive 9-4 regular-season finish and a Big 12 Championship in 2024. As the Buffs look ahead to 2025, they’re bracing for life without the players like Travis Hunter, Shilo Sanders, and others who powered their resurgence.
Deion Sanders, the Colorado Buffaloes coach, will look to rebuild the team with Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis. Salter spoke about his dynamic with Lewis in a conversation with WFAA on January 4th.
"No promises, all competition... JuJu’s a younger guy, so they wanted someone to mentor him and help him feel comfortable in college,” Salter said.
The Buffs' first team meeting without Shedeur Sanders set the tone for this new era. Both quarterbacks are eager to prove they’re ready to lead. In a bold move, Lewis claimed Shedeur’s old seat, signaling he’s not here to play backup. Salter, however, is focused on proving his value as a seasoned leader capable of guiding Colorado to another championship run.
It isn’t hard to say that the expectations are running sky-high with a battle for QB1 in Boulder officially underway and a fanbase hungry for more success. Whether it’s through Lewis’s potential or Salter’s polish, Coach Prime will look to ensure that Colorado’s future is in capable hands after his son and his teammates' exit.
