Colorado's Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter shoot hoops, mark NBA opening night presence before Lakers-Nuggets tipoff
Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter have established themselves as two of the most popular college football players in the nation. The Colorado Buffaloes stars were on hand for the NBA's season opener between the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets, where they were able to put up some shots on the floor. The results, however, were not great as both players struggled with their three-point shots.
Romi Bean of CBS News Colorado shared footage of the pair shooting, captioning the tweet:
"Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter not exactly draining buckets. A for effort tho 😜"
Both have been a big part of the Buffaloes turnaround in the first year under head coach Deion Sanders. After finishing just 1-11 last season, Colorado is 4-3 coming out of their Week 8 bye. They exceeded their preseason projected win total of 3.5 wins in Week 6.
The program, however, still has plenty to clean up, particularly on the defensive end, after blowing a 29-0 halftime lead against the Stanford Cardinal in their most recent outing. They will look to right the ship when they travel to the Rose Bowl to face the 5-2 No.23-ranked UCLA Bruins this weekend.
How have Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter performed this season?
Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter were both dominant for the Jackson State Tigers, who play at the FCS level. Despite this, many questioned how they would perform at the FBS level after both players joined the Colorado Buffaloes via the transfer portal, following coach Deion Sanders.
Sanders' son has continued to thrive under center as, through seven games, he has 2420 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has completed 72.3% of his passes while adding three touchdowns on the ground. While it is unclear if he will enter the 2024 NFL Draft, there have been rumblings that he could be a first-round pick, if he does make the jump to the professional level.
Meanwhile, Hunter has excelled in a two-way role. Despite missing more than three and a half games with an injury, he has caught 29 passes for 353 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He has also recorded 14 tackles, one interception and two passes defended. While he is not draft eligible until after next season, he is among the top players in the 2025 NFL Draft class.
