Colorado star Travis Hunter reveals the "only person" he'd excitedly watch as NFL Week 1 kicks off
The NFL season will kick off this week and one player in particular has caught the attention of University of Colorado star Travis Hunter.
On Wednesday's episode of "The Travis Hunter Show" podcast, Colorado's Heisman candidate revealed the one player he was excited to watch during Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.
"I'm just ready to see my boy [Xavier Weaver] go crazy," Hunter said on the show (7:12 mark). "I saw him with a big catch the other night. I look at all his games, all his highlights... I wanted to go see his game, but we had practice. I'm still rooting for my boy. That's the only person I look forward to seeing play."
Travis Hunter played alongside Xavier Weaver last season at Colorado. Weaver was impressive in the Buffaloes' offense, catching 68 passes for 908 yards and four touchdowns.
Weaver went undrafted in the 2024 NFL draft, but was quickly scooped up by the Arizona Cardinals. Weaver impressed throughout camp and preseason, earning a spot on Arizona's 53-man roster ahead of the start of the season.
Travis Hunter will be watching as Weaver is set to make his NFL debut in Arizona's Week 1 matchup versus the Buffalo Bills.
Travis Hunter, Colorado looking to carry momentum entering crucial Week 2 matchup
Weaver isn't the only one with an important game this weekend, as his alma mater and former teammate will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to play the Cornhuskers.
Nebraska, like Colorado, has a lot of hype around their team in 2024, largely because of quarterback Dylan Raiola. As one of the most highly-touted players in the country coming out of Buford High School in Georgia, he landed the starting job for the Cornhuskers as a true freshman.
In his college debut, Raiola completed 19 of his 27 pass attempts for 238 yards and two touchdowns in Nebraska's 40-7 victory over UTEP last weekend. The freshman quarterback will have his work cut out for him as an explosive Colorado team comes to town.
After struggling against an underrated North Dakota State squad in Week 1, Colorado will look to build on their big win in the season opener. Heisman hopefuls Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter lived up to the hype in their season debut.
Sanders threw for 445 yards and four touchdowns, completing seven passes to Travis Hunter, who notched 132 yards and three touchdowns. Hunter also added three tackles on defense.
Entering Week 2 as a seven-point underdog, Travis Hunter and the Buffaloes will look to prove the doubters wrong versus Nebraska.
