Colorado superfan Peggy breaks down in emotional call with Deion Sanders over bowl eligibility news

The Colorado Buffaloes under coach Deion Sanders continued their fairytale season with a comprehensive 34-23 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday night. The victory came on the back of impressive performances by quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter. The Buffs now have a 6-2 record and are bowl-eligible for the first time in eight years.

At the beginning of the season, Sanders promised Colorado superfan Peggy Coppom, fondly known as "Miss Peggy," that the Buffaloes would be bowl-eligible this year, a promise they emphatically fulfilled in Week 9.

After the game, the charismatic Buffaloes coach made an inspiring speech to his players about the achievement. He also made a call to Miss Peggy about the promise that he made her, leading to Coppom breaking down.

"I'm so happy thank you so much for the turnaround you have done for us. Thank you for that," Miss Peggy said.

After the Week 8 win against the Arizona Wildcats, Deion Sanders revealed that he was not just satisfied with just any bowl game and that the Buffs would try to get a high-profile bowl game for Miss Peggy.

“We still ain’t got Peggy straight,” Deion Sanders said. “We gotta get Peggy straight. Now we don’t really just wanna get Peggy to a bowl. Peggy got great taste. She’s sophisticated. She’s a lady, so we want to make sure we get her to a nice bowl, not just any bowl … We want to win."

Deion Sanders and Miss Peggy share unique bond

Miss Peggy's affiliation with the Colorado Buffaloes goes back to 1945 during the Second World War, spanning over 3,000 games. While she has seen many Buffs coaches (16), she has hit it off with Deion Sanders, with whom she shares a special bond, as she revealed during an interview with USA Today.

“We hit it off, I guess, as far as liking each other and being friends. And I consider him (Sanders) a good friend now," Miss Peggy said. “And he cares about his family. He takes care of his family, and I like the fact he’s not reluctant to express his faith in God and all those things. You have a few things in common when you have friendships."

Deion Sanders has already delivered on a promise that looked unlikely when he joined the Colorado Buffaloes in 2022 after the team had registered a 1-11 season. Now he has once again pledged to snag a juicy bowl game for superfan Miss Peggy.
