"Couldn't stop him man": When Aaron Rodgers gave shoutout to his unguardable teammate at high school
Aaron Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He has had a long and successful career with the Green Bay Packers and is now trying to repeat this success with the New York Jets.
Rodgers played high school football at Pleasant Valley High School, located in California, where he was able to set the single season record for the school in 2001, after throwing for 2,466 yards. Rodgers spoke about his high school team while making an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" in January 2023.
While showing a clip from one of Pleasant Valley's games, McAfee was impressed by the performance of another player and wanted to know how this player was. Rodgers was happy to talk about this and identified the player in question:
"Thomas Wilson man, shout out to Thomas he was unguardable in high school."
During this period, Thomas Wilson was the main target for Aaron Rodgers. He has had many talented receivers in his NFL career, but Wilson was likely to be the first for Rodgers.
Aaron continued to praise Wilson later in the interview:
"well the night before we were supposed to play at Chico State right, it's a big rivalry game that we have and look at Thomas, just Tommy, Wilson he only played one year football this dude couldn't stop him, man the best there never was."
Wilson did not play in the NFL, but the time he spent being the main man for one of football's best QBs is certainly memorable.
Aaron Rodgers in high school
Aaron Rodgers high school career has been discussed numerous times in interviews with Rodgers himself and those around him. Once, Rodgers head coach at Pleasant Valley, Sterling Jackson, told OnMilwaukee magazine in 2018:
"You’ve got a kid that looks the part and you’ve got a kid that just looks young but Ron [Souza, the offensive coordinator] is going, ‘This guy right here, he’s the guy. He’s going to be the guy that leads this program.’"
Rodgers potential was seen when he was young and has always lived up to it. From high school, he went on to play for the California Golden Bears, where he again dominated, and paved the way for his successful NFL career.
