Dabo Swinney's son Clay Swinney and GF Reese Reynolds celebrate first anniversary: "My best friend"

Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney's son Clay Swinney has played for his father for two years with his latest snap coming in the Tigers' 59-35 demolition job of the NC State Wolfpack where he registered four yards on one reception. Off the gridiron, he celebrated more than just the Tigers' win.

Clay's girlfriend, Reese Reynolds, recently posted a picture of the couple on her Instagram stories celebrating their one-year anniversary.

She captioned the story:

"One year with my best friend!!! @clayswinney1."

The couple shared pictures of themselves during a vacation in Charlotte Harbor, Florida during the college football offseason.

Clay Swinney joins the Swinney family at Clemson

Clay Swinney was a walk-on for the Clemson Tigers in 2022 to continue the legacy laid down by his elder brothers Will and Drew, who have played for coach Dabo Swinney as well.

During an interview with Yahoo Sports, the outspoken Tigers coach revealed his excitement at being on the same team as his three sons.

“The first time ever that we’ve all been on the same team and excited, obviously,” Dabo Swinney said. “Clay just turned 21 and I remember like it was yesterday. He was born right here in July of 2003 and he’s 21 years old now. It’s crazy.”

Drew Swinney played for Clemson between 2018 and 2022 and he joined his father's coaching staff as an assistant coach for player development and primarily coaches the wide receivers, a department that contains his younger brother, Clay.

Will Swinney was also a Tigers player between 2017 and 2021 and he joined the family business as an unpaid intern on his father's coaching staff primarily in the tight ends department.

During an interview with 7NEWS, Clay Swinney gave his thoughts on playing on the same team as his brothers and his father.

“I didn’t get a chance to play with Will. I played one year with Drew because he redshirted,” Clay Swinney said. “So I was always kind of just watching from the outskirts. But for us all to be on the same team with my dad too, it’s really special for our family.”

Clay also revealed that in future, he might just end up on the same coaching staff as his famous father and his two brothers.

“I still got three seasons left,” Clay said, “but (I) definitely think about the future. And I think, you know, the family business coaching is definitely an option for me.”

Before he can think about his future as a coach, Clay Swinney will aim to help the Clemson Tigers and Dabo Swinney drag the program back to prominence after a rough few years.
