"Deepest in the country": Shrine Bowl Director shines the light on 3 Colorado receivers outside NFL-bound Travis
East-West Shrine Bowl director Eric Galko celebrated four Colorado Buffaloes receivers, lauding their performances this season and expressing certainty that they would move on to the NFL.
He name-dropped Will Sheppard, LaJohntay Wester, Jimmy Horn Jr and Travis Hunter, highlighting their skills and referring to them as NFL receivers. Galko also praised the Colorado Buffaloes for having the deepest receiving corps in the country. He tweeted:
"The receiving corps is the deepest in the country. Even after Travis Hunter, Colorado has three NFL receivers in their offense."
LaJohntay Wester has 660 receiving yards and eight touchdowns this season, displaying undeniable skill, which has made him impossible to ignore.
Jimmy Horn Jr. ranks fourth in the Buffs with 434 receiving yards. His value to his team is recognized by fans and more importantly by his coach, Deion Sanders, who told ESPN:
“Everybody, including scouts, knows the value of Jimmy Horn. Just because he’s not receiving 10 balls at a time, that does not mean he’s not valuable.”
Erik Galko name-dropping Will Sheppard is a no-brainer. Sheppard just put up a two-touchdown, 71-yard performance against Utah. He has displayed the skill and professionalism of an NFL player while at the collegiate level.
In total, six Colorado Buffaloes players have accepted their invites to the East-West Shrine Bowl’s 100th anniversary. They are Shedeur Sanders, LaJohntay Wester, Will Sheppard, Jimmy Horn, Cam’ron Silmon-Craig and Shilo Sanders.
The East-West Shrine Bowl presents top college football players who are eligible for the NFL with the chance to impress NFL scouts and executives. It's held annually with the aim of creating an environment where student-athletes can showcase their talent and increase their chances of having a career in the NFL.
This season’s East-West Shrine Bowl will be held on Jan. 30, at the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium.
Colorado Buffaloes’ Travis Hunter named as semifinalist for Biletnikoff Award
Travis Hunter has been named as a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff award and frankly, no one is surprised.
The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the best college football receiver of the season. It would be an understatement to say that Hunter deserves the accolade, considering the record-setting performances he has delivered all season.
Against Utah, Hunter became the first NFL or FBS player to record over 50 receiving yards, a rushing touchdown and an interception in the same game since Champ Bailey.
Hunter is also the favorite for the Heisman Trophy, and his performance against Utah has increased his stock. He's no doubt one of the most thrilling players to watch, perhaps in college football history.
