Deion Sanders' latest recruit and Georgia native sends 2-word message to Colorado faithful following commitment announcement

After wrapping up the 2024 season with a 9-4 record, Colorado heads into next season with high hopes. Meanwhile, Deion Sanders scored a late recruiting win for the 2025 class, landing a commitment from wide receiver and cornerback Kyle Carpenter on Saturday.

The Georgia native will be reuniting with his high school teammate, three-star linebacker Mantrez Walker, in Boulder. Following his announcement, Carpenter expressed his excitement, tweeting:

"#skobuffs🦬 IM COMING."

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect becomes part of a 2025 class led by five-star quarterback Julian Lewis. With Shedeur Sanders moving on, Lewis is expected to carry on Colorado’s momentum under Coach Prime, and Carpenter is eager to contribute.

"The coaching staff with Coach Prime is the greatest to ever do it," Carpenter told Athlon Sports following his commitment. "Everybody in boulder just feels like family as soon as I came in."

In the 2024 season, Carpenter tallied nine receptions for 142 yards and one touchdown over nine games. He hopes to follow in the footsteps of Travis Hunter and become Colorado’s next two-way standout, which gained significance after Hunter’s move to the NFL.

Hunter proved his elite versatility under Sanders by playing more than 700 snaps on both offense and defense, totaling 1,463 snaps in the 2024 season. Carpenter now has the chance to fill that dynamic role. Besides football, Carpenter also competed in basketball in high school.

Deion Sanders will host Texas commit Hayward Howard Jr. this weekend

Colorado has only two committed players in the 2026 class, ranking No. 35 in the nation. The cycle features tight end Gavin Mueller and edge rusher Domata Peko Jr.

Deion Sanders and his staff are working to boost that number, as they prepare to host several 2026 prospects in Boulder this weekend. Among the visitors is cornerback Hayward Howard Jr., who has been committed to Texas since May.

However, Howard has previously expressed admiration for Coach Prime, telling Crescent City Sports:

“I always liked Richard Sherman and Deion Sanders. I liked the way they played.”

Coach Prime will now get the chance to use this opportunity this weekend to potentially flip Howard Jr. from Texas. Convincing a player shouldn't be too hard for an elite coach like Sanders, who flipped five-star quarterback Julian Lewis from Notre Dame in the 2025 class.

Colorado will also host edge rusher Daniel Norman, safety D'Montae Tims and linebacker Colby Johnson this weekend.
