"Deion Sanders would be a terrible choice for Jets coach": Fans trash latest job rumors around Colorado HC
Deion Sanders, in just his second year as Colorado coach, has sparked plenty of conversation, especially with fresh rumors swirling about a potential NFL coaching role. Fans are already debating the possibility of "Coach Prime" joining the New York Jets.
Sanders, a Pro Football Hall of Famer with an NFL career that saw him play for teams like the Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons, is reportedly a surprising candidate for the Jets’ coaching role next season.
The rumor started with a recent article from The Athletic, where writer Zack Rosenblatt listed Sanders as a possible option for the Jets, now led by interim coach Jeff Ulbrich after Robert Saleh’s firing last month.
Fans quickly shared their opinions online. One fan on X wrote:
“Deion Sanders would be a terrible choice for Jets coach.”
“So him and his son both in MetLife next season?” a fan wrote.
While some were intrigued by the idea, others doubted it would work.
“No thank you,” one fan wrote.
“No. I don’t think Coach Prime would do well in the pros. He brought a whole circus to Colorado. Doubt an NFL team would allow that,” a fan wrote.
There’s also Sanders’ contract to consider. He’s signed with Colorado for three more years, with a reported $15 million buyout clause, making a transition to the NFL costly and complicated.
“He is locked in at Colorado for 3 more years. His contract buyout is $15M. I doubt he breaks it,” one wrote.
“In an odd way - he’d change the culture quickly but he’ll never do it,” another wrote.
"Prime Time" has undeniably brought fresh life to Colorado’s football program. His team currently sits at 21st in the rankings with a 6-2 record after defeating the Cincinatti Bearcats 34-23 last week, a marked improvement over last season’s 4-8 finish.
It’s clear Coach Prime has made an impact at Colorado—but is the NFL the next step? For now, fans remain skeptical.
Colorado Buffaloes signed Deion Sanders to a five-year deal
In December 2022, the Colorado Buffaloes signed Deion Sanders to a five-year deal valued at $29.5 million. According to Brian Howell from BuffZone and Boulder Daily Camera, Sanders’ contract includes a buyout clause. If Sanders leaves, he’d owe Colorado $15 million in the first year, $10 million in the second, $8 million in the third and $5 million in the fourth year and beyond.
On the other hand, if Colorado dismisses Coach Prime without cause, the school would owe him 75% of his remaining contract.
