"Did a legend dirty": Fans go wild after UNC makes massive decision on legendary coach Mack Brown
Mack Brown may coach his final game for the North Carolina Tar Heels this Saturday. UNC announced Tuesday morning that Brown won't return next season. The Tar Heels will compete in a home game against the North Carolina State Wolfpack in Week 14 on Nov. 30.
In a press release, UNC shared that their Director of Athletics told Brown on Nov. 25 that he was being let go after the season was over.
"This season will be Mack Brown's last as the University of North Carolina's head football coach. Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham on Monday informed Brown, who coached UNC from 1988-97 and then returned to Chapel Hill in Nov., 2018, that he will not return as head coach," the release said.
The statement continued to praise Brown for his contribution to the Tar Heels as a successful coach over the years and that he has three years left on his contract, which the Department of Athletics will pay.
Fans have reacted negatively to the announcement on X with how they've handled Brown's firing.
"Did a legend dirty," a social media influncer wrote.
"UNC told Mack Brown you ain't got to go home but you can't stay here," a fan wrote.
"Mack Brown is a football guy, UNC will regret this just like Texas did," another fan commented.

"Legend deserves to retire," another fan wrote.
"Mack Brown's impact on North Carolina has been immense. His leadership will be missed, but there's still one more game to honor his legacy. Wishing him the best in his next chapter," a fan responded.

UNC (6-5, 3-4 ACC) is coming off a 41-21 loss to the Boston College Eagles (6-5, 3-4) in Week 13 on Nov. 23. Brown was unable to get his team going in the first quarter, and the Eagles were able to control the game. By halftime, Boston College had a 24-7 lead and continued to dominate until the end of the contest.
The Tar Heels will try to rebound from their loss in the Week 14 matchup against North Carolina State (5-6, 2-5). UNC didn't share in the press release whether Brown would be available to coach for their bowl game. It's possible that Saturday could mark the end of his career with the program.
