"DJ Uiagalelei is a total package": Mike Norvell makes big claims about FSU QB ahead of 2024 season

Mike Norvell couldn't be more happy over Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, who's improving each week as he settles into his new environment. The FSU head coach has high expectations from the 23-year-old QB as he banks on his comprehensive skillset and experience.

In an interview with Greg McElroy on the "Always College Football" podcast, Norvell delved into why Uiagalelei is a complete player. McElroy initiated the discussion by noting the fascination surrounding Uiagalelei and comparing him to former FSU quarterback Jordan Travis.

He asked Norvell what made Uiagalelei stand out as the right choice for FSU. Norvell responded enthusiastically:

"I think DJ is the total package. You see an elite-level talent, skill, obviously the size, and really has a lot of great experience. Some of it's been really good; some of it's been challenges he's had to overcome." [12:20]

The Seminoles HC praised Uiagalelei’s character and his positive impact in the locker room, stating how his teammates admire him and enjoy competing alongside him.

Mike Norvell is confident about DJ Uiagalelei's transition to FSU

FSU head coach Mike Norvell placed his trust in DJ Uiagalelei's move to the Seminoles following a strong spring performance that exceeded expectations. Norvell and his staff feel comfortable building their offense around the veteran QB, a former five-star recruit with NFL potential.

While discussing Uiagalelei's spring camp during an ACC spring meeting, Norvell said:

"The spring performance was more reaffirming of a lot of the thoughts. The things that I hoped I would see, probably more advanced in his progression."

The Texas native praised Uiagalelei's ability to handle various challenges during his transition, stating:

"I thought he handled them all really well."

With four months to go until kickoff, Mike Norvell is optimistic about Uiagalelei's continued growth, highlighting the importance of both good and bad examples in his development. Uiagalelei, who transferred from Oregon State after a rocky time at Clemson, is tasked to bring stability to FSU's offense.
