"Don't care where it is at": Travis Hunter speaks on his draft dreams after stellar back-to-back performances for CU

Life is good for Travis Hunter at the moment. The Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver is among the most sought-after prospects for NFL scouts. The 21-year-old shared his NFL Draft dreams, and his eyes are set on a big goal.

Hunter has been projected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, with the Jacksonville Jaguars expected to hold the top selection. Yet, Hunter has a different wish—he wants to stay in Colorado. On the "Kickin' It With Dee" podcast, Hunter revealed his desire to be drafted by the Denver Broncos. He said:

"I wish I could go to the Broncos, just to stay in Colorado, because so many people just welcomed us with open arms and they showed us love that we would never have gotten in a different spot."
"I want to be the first pick. I never dreamed of it until a couple of years ago when I knew I had a chance. That has been my main goal. I don't care where it is at," Hunter continued. [34:00]

Whether he lands in Denver or not, the talented wide receiver/defensive back is a top-five prospect and could be CU's highest-ever draft pick. The record is currently held by running back Bo Matthews, who was drafted as a first-round pick by the San Diego Chargers in 1974.

The Colorado athlete was one of the best players for Coach Prime’s team in Weeks 4 and 5 against the Baylor Bears and UCF Knights, respectively. His versatility on both sides of the ball has caught national attention, and he is set to follow in the footsteps of legends like Champ Bailey and Deion Sanders.

Where should Travis Hunter play in the NFL?

Travis Hunter is the talk of the NFL Draft for a reason. The Colorado junior has dominated both as a wide receiver and cornerback, leaving fans and scouts debating his best fit in the big leagues.

His two-way play has managed 46 receptions for 561 yards and six touchdowns this season, along with 18 tackles, two interceptions, and a forced fumble when playing defense.

At wide receiver, Hunter is a pure playmaker. Standing at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, his agility and muscle allow him to beat defenders easily. As one AFC general manager noted:

"Even if you take away what he does on defense, I think he's the best player in college."

NFL experts Matt Miller and Jordan Reid set out to talk to NFL scouts and concluded about which position is best for the Buffs star. Miller’s final verdict, as per an AFC East scout, was:

“That guy can play whatever he wants. [But] I think the way the league is going -- with wide-open offenses -- I think you put him at wide receiver.”

While Reid’s verdict, as per an NFC South scout, said:

“He's a good player on both sides, but his upside at corner is tremendous.”

Whether at wide receiver or cornerback, one thing is clear—Travis Hunter is set to make an immediate impact in the NFL.
