"Don't stop letting them know you're a Sanders" - Coach Prime follows ex-wife Pilar's footsteps to hype up Shelomi Sanders after her performance
Colorado Buffaloes coach Deion Sander's youngest daughter, Shelomi, made the headlines when she transferred from Boulder to play for the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. Deion wasn't happy with Shelomi's decision to move away from the family. She tipped off her career for the Bulldogs in style during their season-opening 96–50 win against Oakwood University.
Shelomi registered 14 points, two steals, one assist, one rebound and one block in 10 minutes of action. After the game, Coach Prime posted a heartfelt message on Instagram to encourage and hype her up.
"I’m SO PROUD OF MY BABYGIRL! Bossy do yo thang baby. You took our Conversation to heart yesterday and sprinted with it. Love u baby. Don’t ever Stop letting them know you’re a Sanders. We’re built for Adversity! 14pts 2stls 1blk 1rb 10 min!!! Thank u JESUS for Opportunity. @shelomisanders," Coach Prime wrote on Tuesday.
Shelomi Sander's mother, Pilar, also hyped her in an Instagram post.
"AND YEP JUST LIKE THAT! THE BABY OF THE BUNCH EMERGES! It’s basketball season ya’ll!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO MY @aamuwbb FOR THEIR LANDSLIDE WIN 96 - 50 AND TO MY BABY GURRRL @shelomisanders FOR A GREAT START TO WHAT WE’VE ALL BEEN READY FOR! Coach Prime changes tune on Shelomi Sanders transferring
When Shelomi Sanders entered the transfer portal from the Colorado Lady Buffs in April after playing only 11 minutes spread across five games, Coach Prime was not pleased with the decision, verbalizing his discontent in an interview on the "DVNR Buffs" podcast.
"(It) was stupid," Deion Sanders said. "You don't enter the portal. You get a team before you enter the portal. You kinda get a team before you enter the portal. You know, that's what I would advise a child. And I know, 'Well it's illegal...' C'mon, man."
During an Instagram livestream a few weeks ago, Shelomi Sanders was blunt about her reasons for leaving Boulder despite the conflict it caused between her and her father.
“I don’t want to say anything too bad,” Shelomi said. “It just wasn’t good energy. It wasn’t good vibes. There wasn’t enough being poured into me as a player and young lady. If I didn’t leave when I did, I promise you I would’ve quit.”
Shelomi Sanders has started her new adventure in fine form with her opening-day heroics against Oakwood University.
