"Dude looks like he could suit up and play": Former Alabama coach Travaris Robinson joining Kirby Smart's coaching staff fires up CFB world
The Georgia Bulldogs have a new co-defensive coordinator and safety coach. Former NFL safety Travaris Robinson was announced on Saturday to have joined the Bulldogs coaching staff led by Kirby Smart.
Robinson's appointment has seemed to delight Bulldogs fans. Here are some of their reactions:
The fans appear to be happy about getting Robinson from Alabama
Some think that his appointment will lead to long-term improvements for the Bulldogs
Travaris Robinson's past at Alabama: Did Saban's departure play a role in his transfer?
Before crossing state lines and working with the Georgia Bulldogs, Robinson was the cornerback coach for Alabama under the now-retired head coach, Nick Saban.
Coming into the 2023 season, Robinson was promoted to coach the entire secondary line of defense after then-coach Charles Kelly left Tuscaloosa for Deion Sanders’ Colorado.
Robinson was successful at Alabama and was in the running to become the defensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide. That was until Nick Saban announced his retirement.
On Friday, after days of speculation about who would become the next Crimson Tide head coach, Washington Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer was announced as Saban's replacement.
Within 24 hours of this announcement, DeBoer had already lost a strong coach to their rivals. Robinson's departure could be the start of an exodus of coaches from the Alabama program.
What's happening to Will Muschamp?
Will Muschamp, the current co-defensive coordinator and safety coach, will be replaced by Robinson. Many Georgia fans are wondering where he will go next.
Muschamp is staying in the Bulldogs program. The former head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks will transition to a defensive analyst position in the program. This is to, as reports state, “spend more time with his family.”
Travaris Robinson knows how to manage one of the strongest defenses effectively. This appointment is a steal for the Georgia Bulldogs, who will look to regain their SEC and national championships next season.
