Duke starting QB 2024: Who will start for Manny Diaz in Week 3

The Duke Blue Devils have won their first two games of the 2024-25 college football season. Duke is one of nine ACC teams to open its season with an undefeated record entering Week 3.

The Blue Devils face the UConn Huskies in their Week 3 matchup. Duke has two more non-conference matchups before starting ACC play in Week 5 against the North Carolina Tarheels.

Transfer quarterback Maalik Murphy has lived up to expectations during his first two starts for Duke as he looks to continue his stellar play in Week 3.

Will Maalik Murphy continue to start for Duke in Week 3?

Murphy will start. The Texas transfer has more than held his own in his first two games and Duke is in a position to crack the Top 25 if they keep winning.

The sophomore quarterback chose Duke over Georgia, USC and Ohio State.

Murphy has given the Blue Devils notable quarterback play after Duke's offense lost highly-touted signal caller Riley Leonard to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

If Duke builds a significant lead, backup quarterback Henry Belin IV could see action versus UConn. Belin completed a seven-yard pass in Duke's overtime win against Northwestern last week. The Blue Devil backup is a three-star recruit from Bronx, New York.

Maalik Murphy's performance in the first two games of the 2024-25 season

During his brief time at Duke, Maalik Murphy has completed 50 of 79 pass attempts for 533 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions.

Murphy began the season with a solid showing versus Elon, completing 26 of 40 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. He followed that with a 24-of-39 showing versus Northwestern, throwing for 243 yards and three touchdowns with an interception.
