Dylan Sampson injury update: Huge blow for Josh Heupel as insider drops latest news on star RB

The Tennessee Volunteers face difficulty in their first-round College Football Playoff game against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Their offense took a major hit after running back Dylan Sampson suffered an apparent knee injury late in the first quarter of the game. He is listed as questionable to return for the game.

However, since leaving the game (3:27 mark in the first quarter) and heading to the locker room, Sampson has not returned. He was not much involved in the offense, recording just three total touches (two carries, one reception) and tallied eight total yards.

Dylan Sampson has been a significant piece for the Tennessee Volunteers throughout the season. He has recorded 256 rushing attempts for 1,485 yards (5.8 yards per carry) with 22 rushing touchdowns as well as 19 receptions for 141 yards (7.4 yards per catch) without finding the end zone.

Where does Dylan Sampson project for the 2025 NFL draft?

Dylan Sampson has played three years of college football, meaning he is officially eligible for the 2025 NFL draft. He has shown a lot of talent and there are going to be teams lining up to draft him. Sampson has shown the ability to be a threat out of the backfield in both the running and passing games, which means he can remain on the field longer.

He also does not have many injuries that he has suffered throughout his collegiate career. With his quick bursts and being one of the top running backs that are eligible for the 2025 NFL draft, he is expected to come off the board quickly.

While he does not show the overall talent to be taken in the first round as there are a lot bigger needs than the running back position for a majority of NFL teams, expect to hear his name towards the middle of the second round.
