"Everybody ain't equal": Colorado HC Deion Sanders gives insight into how NIL should be regulated

Deion Sanders shared his insight on how the NIL structure should be regulated for better functionality. In a recent appearance on the “All The Smoke” podcast, the Colorado Buffaloes' head coach got candid on the topic that has been raging for years now. According to him, it should be more in line with professional sports.

NCAA first introduced the concept of NIL in 2021 as a form of compensation for college athletes to make some money. But soon, accusations of payments for recruitment and transfers arose. While critics say that every player should get equal treatment, Coach Prime believes that it simply isn't possible.

Here is what the Colorado Buffaloes' head coach Deion Sanders said on the notion that every player should be treated equally.

“I just have a problem with, you can't do it all the same. Because everybody isn't built like that. Everybody ain't equal. We all wanna say everybody is created equal, that's a lie,” Sanders said on the podcast.

Sanders gave the example of Travis Hunter to make his point, saying that he gives him 100 something snaps so he isn't equal but different from other players. He joked that if Hunter was equal, he would have to get in line twice to get paid because he plays both offense and defense.

“It has to be something done. I don't know what needs to be done but it has to be some kind of a structure in order, in a scale,” Deion Sanders added.

Coach Prime joined Colorado Buffaloes as the head coach back in December 2022 and has since grabbed unprecedented eyeballs for the team. He will lead the team for his second season this fall and try to build on the 4-8 disaster of 2023.

Deion Sanders is prepared for the 2024 season

During his ‘All The Smoke' appearance, Deion Sanders laid out his preparation for the upcoming 2024 season. He talked about hiring his offensive and defensive coordinators from the NFL. He also pointed out that several of the team physicians also have professional experience.

“In college ball, we get 10 hired positions plus the coach it's 11. Seven of the ten come from the NFL, we've got NFL experience. Inside this building we've got 179 years of NFL experience," he said on the issue.

Coach Prime had led his team to a 3-0 start in the 2023 season. But the Buffs lost eight of the next nine games and missed out on the postseason. This time, he has the target of getting Colorado to a Bowl game.
