"Exactly why we don’t let liberals run our prized SEC": CFB world not impressed with Kalen DeBoer arranging ice cream for the squad
Kalen DeBoer is making quite the impression as the Alabama Crimson Tide's new coach. While his efforts to keep the team at the top following former coach Nick Saban's retirement were seen during the Crimson Tide's fall camp, one of his gestures did not rub well with all of their fans.
Following the completion of fall camp, reports of DeBoer offering ice cream to the roster surfaced. Some fans took to social media to voice their discontent, believing that the Saban era would never see a gesture like this from the program's coach.
"This is exactly why we don’t let liberals run our prized SEC programs smh," said one fan.
"Saban would have forced them to run 5 miles after eating the ice cream," said another.
"Saban would never," one fan stated.
Meanwhile, another fan went on a rant about Bama's recruiting compared to rivals Auburn.
Another fan vehemently added, "Is that why Auburn is kicking Alabama’s a** in recruiting right now, because they care? Having 8 of the top ten players in state go to your biggest rival is not grounds for celebration. It’s getting noticed and it’s getting embarrassing."
However, there were a few fans appreciative of DeBoer's gesture, acknowledging his new approach to leading the Crimson Tide.
"Age doesn't matter, the sounds of the ice cream truck will turn every adult into a child," said one fan.
Another said, "Roll Tide! Everybody loves ice cream!"
Kalen DeBoer enjoyed a strong 2023 season
In his final season with the Washington Huskies, DeBoer led them to the Pac-12 conference title with an unbeaten 9-0 record, qualifying for the College Playoff as the second seed. The only game they lost last season was the CFP National Championship game to the Michigan Wolverines.
He won the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year, AP Coach of the Year and the Home Depot Coach of the Year among other accolades for his efforts last season. Hence, it's no surprise why the Crimson Tide chose him to replace Saban as the program's coach following the latter's retirement in January after 16 incredible seasons.
Kalen DeBoer will need to deal with the Crimson Tide's growing expectations this season given that they have not won a national championship since 2020. While they will be favorites this season once again, fans will hope DeBoer can strike gold in his first season as the program's coach.
