Florida Gators face serious injury setback as pains from Georgia defeat linger on into Week 11

Florida Gators sophomore running back Treyaun Webb was diagnosed with a fractured tibia and will get season-ending surgery. Webb finished the year with just 93 rushing yards and one touchdown.

The Jacksonville, Florida native had 163 rushing yards and two touchdowns as a freshman in 2023.

The ripple effect of Treyaun Webb's injury on Florida Gators offense

Sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway was leaned on in the second half of the season to help energize the Florida Gators' offense. But after suffering an injury in Florida's 34-20 loss against the Georiga Bulldogs, Aidan Warner was called on to lead under center. He finished the game with 66 passing yards and one interception.

Graham Mertz opened the season as Florida's starter having had a solid season last year throwing for 20 touchdowns and just three picks. But he couldn't get the ball rolling this season with a 2-3 record as the starter.

Lagway is not entirely out of the question to start at quarterback against the No. 5 Texas Longhorns.

“We're going to kind of see how that goes,” coach Billy Napier said. “I think obviously the position that he plays makes that possible. Look, it's going to be pretty clear-cut once we get to Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, so we'll know.”

On the ground, Montrell Johnson will now have an even bigger role than he already did as the Florida Gators' leading rusher (373 yards). Florida runs a balanced rushing attack, getting everyone involved with four players having over 100 yards on the season.

Everyone's job becomes bigger with Treyaun Webb gone, especially Johnson's if Lagway cannot play. Lagway is fourth on the team in rushing yards with 114, adding a unique depth to the offense. If Warner starts, Johnson could be the sole rusher.

Napier's job security has been a question mark all season, but he may be just one stunner away from staying on with the program next season.
