Former Heisman winner Robert Griffin III takes a dig at SEC after Quinn Ewers & Texas' loss against Ohio State
Quinn Ewers and the Texas Longhorns' season came to an end after suffering a 28-14 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl on Friday night. The Longhorns offense struggled throughout the contest, giving the ball away twice versus the Buckeyes.
Texas was the last standing of two Southeastern Conference teams in the College Football Playoff, with the Georgia Bulldogs losing in embarrassing fashion to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, mustering just 10 points in the Sugar Bowl loss. With both teams out of the tournament, this will mark the first time an SEC team won't make the National Championship in back-to-back years since 2004-05.
Following Texas' loss, former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III took a dig at the Longhorns and the SEC with a post on X (formerly Twitter).
"No SEC teams in the College Football Playoff Championship Game."
Griffin III, a Baylor alum, played for the Bears from 2008 to 2011 before going on to be selected with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He threw for 10,336 yards, ran for 2,254 yards and notched 111 total touchdowns in his four seasons, winning the 2011 Heisman Trophy over Andrew Luck, Trent Richardson and Montee Ball.
In his college career, Griffin III beat the Longhorns twice in three games, topping Texas 24-16 in 2010 and 22-15 in 2011.
Ohio State favored over Notre Dame after beating Texas
After downing the Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl, the Buckeyes will advance to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. The Fighting Irish topped the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Orange Bowl to advance to the championship.
After beating each of their first three playoff opponents by at least two possessions, the Buckeyes enter the National Championship as an eyebrow-raising 9.5-point favorite over the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame enters the matchup with a 14-1 record, while Ohio State boasts a 13-2 mark on the season.
Ohio State has looked dominant on both sides of the ball through three playoff games, eliminating all concern after a concerning loss versus the Michigan Wolverines at home to close the regular season.
