Former LSU stars Jayden Daniels and Joe Burrow share a warm hug ahead of Cincinnati Bengals showdown
Ahead of Monday night’s showdown between the Commanders and Bengals, former LSU stars Jayden Daniels and Joe Burrow shared a heartfelt moment. The two quarterbacks, both Heisman Trophy winners at LSU, were set to face off in an electrifying matchup.
Cincinnati ultimately fell to Washington in a thrilling 38-33 contest, which made history as the first NFL game since 1940 to go without a punt or turnover.
Washington’s rookie, Daniels, was the No. 2 pick in this year's draft, while Burrow has been leading the Bengals since his Heisman-winning days.
Yahoo Sports captured the pre-game reunion, captioning it:
“The aura of two LSU Heisman winners meeting in the NFL.”
Daniels was the star of the night, delivering an "unbelievable" performance according to Burrow:
“They played great on offense today. Jayden played unbelievable,” Burrow said [H/t NBC Sports]. “He played great. I told him that after the game. Congrats to him. Big-time performance.”
Daniels set a rookie record with a 91.3% completion rate, hitting 21 of 23 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns. The QB also contributed 39 rushing yards and a touchdown, cementing his primetime debut as one to remember.
The game didn’t disappoint, with a combined total of nearly 800 yards of offense.
Jayden Daniels delivered a career-defining performance in prime time
Jayden Daniels led the Commanders to a stunning upset against the Bengals. The quarterback made NFL history, setting a record for the highest completion percentage in a game by a rookie. Incredibly, he racked up more total touchdowns than he had incompletions.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz highlighted the significance of the Commanders' achievement. He noted that no team in the Super Bowl era has pulled off what Washington just did: back-to-back games without a single turnover or punt.
"Take a bow Jayden Daniels. Take a bow Kliff Kingsbury. Take a bow Terry McLaurin. Take a bow Washington Commanders. What a night," Schultz posted on X.
With Daniels at the helm, the Commanders scored on every possession, excluding kneel-downs, for the second consecutive game.
The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner from LSU is proving that he’s all set to show more on the NFL stage, and Washington is riding the wave of his success.
