Former NFL GM believes Shedeur Sanders will replace QB Dak Prescott at Dallas Cowboys

Shedeur Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes have just started their 2024 season, but some are already eyeing the signal-caller's potential NFL future. According to several analysts, Shedeur is expected to be a top-five pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He has consistently been the bright spot on a Colorado team that has disappointed after what seemed like a promising start to the 2023 season.

Former NY Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum has speculated that Shedeur Sanders' next stop might be the Dallas Cowboys, who could find themselves without a quarterback after Dak Prescott's contract runs out in 2024.

"There's a better chance, in my opinion, that Shedeur Sanders could be the quarterback [for the Cowboys] next year than Dak Prescott at this point," Tannenbaum said in a recent airing of ESPN's Get Up.

Admittedly, Prescott hasn't lived up to the expectations, failing to get the team to the NFC championship game since taking over the starting job from Toni Romo in 2016 (2016's 13-3 record remains his career-best).

There is also the connection between Shedeur's father, Deion Sanders, and the Dallas Cowboys. It was with the Cowboys that Deion Sanders won his second Super Bowl.

Shedeur Sanders saves Colorado's neck in season opener versus North Dakota State

The Colorado Buffaloes struggled way more than they should've against an FCS opponent on Thursday night. In the end, the Buffs narrowly won the game versus North Dakota State 31-26, thanks to a tremendous performance by Shedeur Sanders, who threw for 445 yards with four touchdowns.

However, it was also Shedeur Sanders who could've ended up costing the Buffs the victory. With 1:45 on the clock, the signal-caller threw a dangerously low but deep pass to LaJohntay Wester, which ended up being incomplete but could've been intercepted.

Everyone was left confused, as all the Colorado offense needed to do at the time was run the ball to eat away from the clock. Shedeur Sanders was admonished by his father and coach, who in the aftermath of the game told the press (per ESPN):

"Shedeur's such a good kid, sometimes it costs him," the coach said. "That's his character. I'm like, 'Come on, Dawg, not right now. It's not time to be the good guy right now. It's time to put this game away.'"

Deion Sanders wasn't happy with the overall performance of his team either.

"You ever feel like you won but you didn't win? Let's move on from that. I'm going to try my best to hold back my anger. But we got a 'W' so I'm happy," Deion Sanders told the press after the game (per ESPN).

Travis Hunter was another key piece for Colorado's victory, recording 132 receiving yards and three touchdowns on offense while also playing defense. Colorado's top receiver was Jimmy Horn Jr., with 198 yards and a touchdown. On September 7, Colorado will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, to face the Cornhuskers.
