Former NFL star shows faith in Colorado's two-way star Travis Hunter winning 2024 Heisman Trophy

Travis Hunter has established himself as one of the top college football players in the nation heading into the 2024 season. Robert Griffin III, who knows a thing or two about winning the Heisman Trophy after taking home the prestigious award in 2011, believes that the Colorado Buffaloes two-way star could join him on the list of winners by taking home the 2024 Heisman Trophy.

Speaking during an appearance on "First Take" on Monday, Griffin III said:

"Travis Hunter has a better chance of winning the Heisman Trophy if Colorado is not a very good football team. He's going to have to put up some crazy numbers on offense and defense and on special teams, but I actually think that's more viable. If Shedeur Sanders is a Heisman Trophy candidate, Colorado is threatening to be in the College Football Playoff."

Griffin continued:

"If Colorado and Deion and Shedeur want to have a chance to win a Heisman Trophy, they're going to have to be a really good football team and by really good, I mean nine, 10-win football team and I do think that there's a path to get there. I believe once again, that Shedeur is a Heisman frontrunner right now because no games have been played."

Hunter had a strong true freshman season as a member of the Jackson State Tigers. The five-star prospect and top-ranked overall recruit in the 2023 recruiting class recorded receptions for 190 yards and four touchdowns on the offensive end along with 19 tackles, two interceptions – one of which he returned for a touchdown – one fumble recovery and eight passes defended on the defensive end.

He had an impressive performance in his first season of FBS play. Hunter finished with 57 receptions for 721 yards, five touchdowns, 31 tackles, three interceptions and five passes defended. He was subsequently named a consensus All-American.

Deion Sanders shares lofty comparison for Travis Hunter

Travis Hunter is the rare two-way star who is given the opportunity to play both offense and defense at the collegiate level. He earned plenty of praise from head coach Deion Sanders heading into the 2024 season. On3's Hayes Fawcett shared the College and Pro Football Hall of Famer's comments on X/Twitter:

"Colorado HC Deion Sanders on Travis Hunter: "He’s something we haven’t seen in college football. Charles Woodson was HIM, Champ Bailey was HIM, those guys are unbelievable… but [Travis] he’s the best WR in college football and he’s the best CB in college football."

While Hunter had a great debut season in Colorado, he has a long way to go before his career is mentioned in the same breath as two-way stars Charles Woodson and Champ Bailey, and "Coach Prime" believes he can reach those levels.
