Four-star Auburn RB commit Alvin Henderson sets a new AHSAA record

Auburn’s 2024 four-star running back commit Alvin Henderson made history with a standout performance that grabbed headlines across Alabama. The Elba High star tied the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) record for the most rushing touchdowns in a game in an 80-78 four-overtime thriller against McKenzie High School, finding the end zone nine times.

His impressive night didn't stop there. He also completed three two-point conversions, amassing an AHSAA record of 60 total points by a single player in a game. Henderson was a dominant force in the high-scoring contest, which set a state record for the most points in an Alabama high school game (158).

Before Henderson's historic performance, the AHSAA single-game rushing touchdown record (9) was set by Brayden Kyle in 2021. He carried the ball 41 times, accumulating 389 rushing yards at 9.5 yards per carry.

On only three games of the season, Henderson has already run 895 yards and scored 17 touchdowns. Notwithstanding Elba’s 1-2 beginning of the season in 2024, Henderson’s virtuosity is still evident. Still, his recent performance and the 3,523 yards and 61 touchdowns from last season make him a player who might surpass those stats this year.

His record-setting game against McKenzie earned him Extra Point Player of the Week honors. As Auburn looks to rebound from its early-season struggles after a week two loss to California, Henderson's incredible potential provides Tiger fans something to look forward to.

Four-star running back Alvin Henderson, who initially committed to Penn State in April, switched his pledge to Auburn on Jun. 21. According to the 247Sports Composite, Henderson ranks as the No. 113 overall prospect and the No. 8 running back in the 2025 class.

“Auburn is home,” he told Auburn Live. “I really appreciate Penn State and I love it up there and their coaches, but Auburn is home. It always has been.”

Henderson's flip further strengthens Auburn’s offensive recruitment efforts under head coach Hugh Freeze and offensive coordinator Derrick Nix. The Tigers haven’t signed six or more top-15 recruits in consecutive years since 2010 (6) and 2011 (7), nor have they landed 12 or more top players in two years since 2014 (7) and 2015 (5).

“The way (Freeze) and the staff recruits me has made a big impact on me,” he said. “Coach Freeze wants me in his system and I like how he talks to me about life and football.”

Henderson is confident in Auburn’s future particularly when it comes to their rivalry with Alabama.

“Like I tell everybody, these next 2-3 years, Auburn will be smacking Bama because we are going to be able to get the recruits here,” he added.

With a .9478 composite rating, Henderson is Auburn’s highest-rated offensive commit for 2025. He joins key offensive linemen pledges Broderick Shull (.9271), Tavaris Dice (.9263) and Carde Smith (.9100).
