“Fumbled it”: Deion Sanders makes his feelings extremely clear after Colorado’s third loss of the season
When the Colorado Buffaloes lost their Week 7 game against Kansas State in October, Coach Prime focused on the mistakes the team made and harshly criticized his son, Shilo, calling his performance "horrible." However, after the loss to the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday, he expressed frustration, but this time, instead of pointing to on-field errors, he called out his team’s attitude.
He believes they took their opponent lightly, which led to their 37-21 loss against the Jayhawks. Coach Prime felt Colorado had the upper hand going into the game and could have controlled it better. But despite everything seemingly in their favor, they lost to a Kansas team that was 4-6 before easily defeating the Buffaloes.
He sees this defeat as a valuable life lesson for the team. In the post-game conference, Coach Prime said:
"I just don't think about football, I think about life. So the message to these young men is if the the god were to grant you every darn thing that we needed in our lives all of the ability, the thought process, connections, and the visuals, and you don't do nothing with it and that's on you and that's what we are. We controlled our own destiny and we fumbled it."
Colorado's star QB, Shedeur Sanders, completed 23 of 29 passes, throwing for 266 yards and three touchdowns. The two-way player and Heisman front-runner, Travis Hunter, had eight receptions for 125 yards and scored twice.
Despite their impressive performances, they couldn’t match the Kansas Jayhawks, who showcased a stronger game on both offense and defense.
Deion Sanders calls out his team’s overconfidence after Kansas loss
In the post-game presser, Deion Sanders shared about what happened in the team meeting right after the loss. He emphasized that his players got distracted with the hype surrounding their success and failed to recognize how crucial the Week 13 matchup really was. He continued:
"We started smelling ourselves a little bit. That’s what I just told the team. We got intoxicated with success. We got intoxicated with the multitude of articles and the assumptions that we’re this and we’re that. And we did not play CU football. Therefore, we got our butts kicked. It is what it is."
While Sanders had no praises for his team’s performance, he did take the time to compliment the effort of their opponents. He acknowledged that, while his team tried their best, Kansas simply wanted the win more.
