"Georgia's problem is their QB": Shannon Sharpe rips Carson Beck to shreds after he crumbles under pressure against Ole Miss
Former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe blames Carson Beck for the Georgia Bulldogs' recent loss. Beck's squad suffered a tough 28-10 defeat to the Ole Miss Rebels in Week 11 on Nov. 9.
After the game, Sharpe and former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson commented on Beck's performance on their podcast, "Nightcap."
Georgia's (7-2, 5-2 SEC) loss to the Rebels (8-2, 4-2) comes as their starting quarterback is struggling toward the end of the regular season. Beck has completed 68 of 112 passes for 670 yards, two touchdowns and seven interceptions over the last three games. In Saturday's loss, Beck completed 20 of 31 passes for 186 yards and one interception.
When recapping the defeat this past Saturday, Sharpe criticized the 2025 NFL Draft prospect and called him the problem for the team's performance.
"Georgia's problem is their quarterback. Now, I don't know how and what they saw in this guy to have this guy like he was the number one prospect quarterback," Sharpe said.
The NFL Hall of Famer added that he wasn't surprised by Ole Miss's defeat of Georgia because of how poorly Beck has performed in recent games.
"They (Ole Miss) did a job on them (Georgia) Ocho. They did a job on them, and I'm not surprised, given how poorly Carson Beck has played, because they won some games in which he threw three interceptions in consecutive games, and they won those games because they were so much better than the opposing team. Now you get a team that doesn't turn the ball over as much as you do, now you see what happens," Sharpe explained.
"We're moving on to Tennessee": Georgia QB Carson Beck looking ahead to the game against Tennesse in Week 12
The Bulldogs quarterback held a press conference to address his performance after the game. He credited the Rebels' defense and felt his team made good plays. However, he thinks his offense stalled out at points in the game and made too many costly mistakes, resulting in their defeat.
Georgia still has a shot to compete in the College Football Playoff. That said, Beck realizes that the team has to regroup and look ahead to Saturday's game against the No. 7 Tennessee Volunteers (8-1, 5-1).
"With the outcome of tonight, we can't go back and change it. It is what it is, and well, guess what? Being in the SEC means next week, we got a big game, you know," Beck said. "So we're going to put this to bed, give ourselves 24 hours, you know go lock in tomorrow, and see what we did wrong. Go watch the film and then we're moving on to Tennesse because we have a really big week next week," Beck said.
Beck will try to snap a string of bad performances and get the team a needed win. The Volunteers are on a four-game winning streak and will have momentum heading into the Week 12 SEC matchup.
