Georgia Tech Bowl Projections: Predicting the Yellowjackets' bowl landing spot

For 7-5 Georgia Tech, the 2024 season has already been a feel-good story. Tech opened the season by exposing an awful Florida State team in Ireland and took down Miami in a loss that probably keeps the Hurricanes out of the College Football Playoff. Even in defeat, like their overtime epic with Georgia, Tech put great effort into it and always played with intensity.

Now, the 7-5 Yellowjackets need to find a bowl niche. After a 5-2 start, Georgia Tech's post-season hopes faded a bit with back-to-back losses to Notre Dame and Virginia Tech. At 5-4, with Miami and Georgia still ahead on the schedule, Tech upset the Hurricanes to set up a 7-5 finish.

In an ACC that is absolutely littered with bowl teams, sorting it all out is a complicated matter. Tech is clearly not a team within the College Football Playoff hunt. That's reserved for SMU, Miami, and Clemson at this point. However, Tech's destination will be interesting to see and should give some insight into the ACC process. Here are the most likely landing spots.

Perhaps the most popular scenario involves a long trip north for the Yellowjackets. The Fenway Bowl against Tulane is a big rendered by Action Network and 247sports. That said, many suggested that the Fenway Bowl would get the winner of the AAC title game. With the Army pulling the upset in that game, the Black Knights could end up as the opposing matchup in Boston.

On the other hand, Jerry Palm and CBS Sports had predicted that Tech would face Army, but the CBS projections had the game being the Independence Bowl. The expectation that the winner of the game ends up in Boston could render this a halfway accurate prediction. Either Tech might face Army in Boston, or they might play in the Independence Bowl against Tulane, as they were defeated in the AAC.

One other possibility that has gained traction with ESPN and is not dependent on the AAC is the Pinstripe Bowl in New York against Minnesota. The Gophers, like the Yellowjackets, had a 7-5 regular season. Four of Minnesota's five losses were one-score defeats, so Minnesota was literally a few plays from being in the thick of the Big Ten title hunt.

In any case, the most likely scenario is that Georgia Tech will be heading north. Any MLB fans looking to connect with the histories of the Yankees or Red Sox could have a happy holiday. Anybody hoping for warm weather should probably cross their fingers for Shreveport and the Independence Bowl.
