Georgia vs. Tennessee: Box score, stats, game summary and more ft. Carson Beck

No. 12 Georgia and No. 7 Tennessee battled in a game of massive College Football Playoff significance.

The Bulldogs used its stout defense and a pair of second half drives to pull away for a 31-17 win.

Georgia (8-2, 6-2 in the SEC) came in off a loss to Ole Miss. A third loss would have been devastating to Georgia's CFP chances, as the Bulldogs were the top team out of the projected field in the most recent CFP rankings. Now, Georgia has likely climbed back into the field.

Tennessee (8-2, 5-2) was within the CFP field, but the second loss for the Vols gives the SEC four hopefuls with two losses, with Texas A&M and Texas each having one loss, but set to play each other in the regular season's final week.

Tennessee took an early 10-0 edge off a first-possession TD march and a 52 yard field goal from kicker Max Gilbert. Georgia answered with a pair of scoring passes to tight end Oscar Delp to take the lead. Tennessee then used standout running back Dylan Sampson to reclaim the lead on a 27-yard scamper. Georgia tied the game just before the half with a field goal.

In the mid-third quarter, Georgia completed an 87-yard drive with a 10-yard Carson Beck TD run to take the lead. Georgia forced Tennessee punts on the first three possessions of the second half. The Bulldogs added a 92 yard march to finish off the 31-17 win on a 2-yard Nate Frazier run.

The Bulldogs will finish the regular season with home games against UMass and Georgia Tech. This victory probably plunges the SEC into chaos, with six teams having realistic shots at four likely SEC bids in the College Football Playoff.

Tennessee completed its regular season slate with a home game at UTEP before a cross-state trip to Vanderbilt. Tennessee's second loss could flip the Vols with Georgia on the outer edge of the CFP.
