"Going backwards": Fans dismiss Scott Frost as HC reportedly enters UCF in latest coaching move

Fans are unhappy about the UCF Knights' reported rehiring of coach Scott Frost. The Knights want to make changes after a disappointing season with only four wins. Orlando Sentinel's Matt Murschel reported on Saturday evening that the program is working on a deal with Frost to return next season.

UCF decided to rehire Frost after Gus Malzahn stepped down on Nov. 30. Malzahn accepted a position as the new offensive coordinator for the Florida State Seminoles (2-10, 1-7 Atlantic Coast Conference).

He ends his three-year run with the program with a 28-24 record. Although UCF hasn't confirmed the ongoing reports, On3's Pete Nakos has confirmed that Frost is expected to coach the Knights for the 2025 season.

Fans reacted about the former coach's return. One critic called it a step back for the program.

"Going backwards, thanks for Heupel and Danny White tho!," a fan wrote.
"absolutely horrible decision," another fan wrote.
"they have no commitment to winning with this...," another fan wrote against UCF's decision.
"The only man that can resurrect UCF, honestly. Until he leaves in 2-3 years for another opportunity," a fan commented.
"UCF fans too busy living in nostalgia to realize this is a brutal hire," a fan replied.
"I hope he can return to his winning ways there! Didn't work out at his alma mater," a fan wrote about UCF's potential decision.

Scott Frost's first run with the UCF Knights

Frost was with UCF for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. In his first year, he led the team to bowl eligibility after the Knights lost every game in 2015. He followed his successful start by coaching the team to an undefeated run and winning the Peach Bowl against the Auburn Tigers on Jan. 1, 2018. After two great seasons, he took a coaching position for the Nebraska Cornhuskers for the 2018 season.

His run with Nebraska wasn't as accomplished, with the team winning less than six games in each of his five years. The best season under his leadership was in 2019 when the Cornhuskers had five victories. Nebraska fired him after the team suffered a 45-42 loss to the Georgia Southern Eagles on Sep. 10, 2022. He ended his career with his former alma mater with a 16-31 record.

UCF's potential rehire of the former coach could be what the team needs to rebound after struggling this year.
