Greg McElroy picks his dark horse Heisman candidate, and it's not Shedeur Sanders or Quinn Ewers

SEC Network's Greg McElroy made his pick for the next Heisman Trophy winner, and it's neither Shedeur Sanders nor Quinn Ewers. Instead, McElroy decided to pick a dark horse candidate to win the biggest individual prize in all of collegiate football.

According to MSN.com, Greg McElroy has chosen Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Dillon Bell to win the coveted award. The "SEC Now" host believes Bell will be a key player for coach Kirby Smart heading into the 2024 collegiate football season:

"I would go with someone who can impact the game in a bunch of different ways," McElroy said. "I would go Dillon Bell from Georgia."

Why did Greg McElroy pick Dillon Bell?

Greg McElroy made the bold prediction on a recent episode of "SEC Now".

The Heisman Trophy is a major award, and Bell winning this season's award could be one of the bigger surprises in recent years if it happened. Quarterbacks like Sanders, Ewers and Jalen Milroe are the usual candidates expected to go on and win the award next season.

Notably, only three wide receivers have won the Heisman Trophy – Tim Brown (1987), Desmond Howard (1991) and DeVonta Smith (2020).

What to expect from Dillon Bell and Georgia Bulldogs in 2024?

Dillon Bell enjoyed a breakout year in 2023. The Swiss army knife star became one of the few players in Bulldogs' history to receive, rush for and throw for a touchdown in a season.

Bell's versatility was a major plus for coach Kirby Smart's offensive coaching staff, as they could bamboozle opponents when Bell was on the field. You could never tell whether the Bulldogs would use him as a wide receiver, running back or even a gadget quarterback in select schemes.

The Georgia Bulldogs are expected to make more noise in the SEC, especially with the departure of long-term foe coach Nick Saban. For a long time, the former Alabama coach was the bane of the Bulldogs' existence, but he's now retired, and the Crimson Tide have since hired Kalen DeBoer.

It's going to be an interesting year for Bell and Co. as they look to return to their championship-winning form that saw them win back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022.

It all starts with their Week 1 matchup against the Clemson Tigers on Aug. 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
