"Guys were getting gassed": Oregon HC Dan Lanning shares one concern following the Ducks' first Fall camp practice
Oregon's Dan Lanning has a concern despite the Ducks being among the top teams to win the national championship, among other programs like Georgia, Ohio State and Alabama.
Following the Pac-12's demise, the Oregon team will have an interesting first season in the Big Ten conference and is also among the favorites to win the conference title. However, Lanning's crew will face some difficulties due to their tough schedules and additional travel time compared to last year.
Dan Lanning gave his two cents on the situation as the team sweated it out during their first Fall Camp practice session this year:
"It was a really good first day for our guys. I think every coach in the nation knows you're going to have energy and enthusiasm on day one. I haven't been around a team that didn't have that. What I was looking for from our team is execution.
"You know, we've had a lot of spring practices, a lot of walkthroughs, a lot of prep time to get it right. I thought our guys got it right today. You know, it got a little quieter towards the end of practice where guys were getting gassed work on good football shape. But outside of that, I was really pleased with guys can open it up like today."
How much does Dan Lanning make at Oregon as a head coach?
Oregon' coach Dan Lanning has fantastic coaching experience. From working under coach Saban with big names like Kirby Smart, Lane Kiffin, Mel Tucker and many more to being the defensive coordinator at Georgia, Lanning has made a name for himself at the relatively young age of 38.
He's among the most talked-about coaches in the nation and will face the spotlight to continue Oregon's momentum following its 22-5 overall record as he moves into his third year with the program.
Before the 2023 season, Lanning signed a contract extension with the Ducks, which means he will be staying with the program at least until 2028, with a $20 million buyout that decreases each year.
Lanning is set to make $45 million in total during his time with the Ducks, which is $7 million per year and increases by $200,000 each year.
Dan Lanning is also eligible for a lucrative $500,000 bonus if he wins a national championship, along with an automatic 1-3 year extension if he secures 10 wins during the season.
The Oregon coach is among the highest-paid coaches in the conference and will be expected to bag a national championship in the 2024 college football season.
