"Guys will be gunning for him": Former Atlanta Falcons DT issues warning to Coach Prime as Travis Hunter succeeds at Colorado
Former Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Warren Herring had a message for Coach Prime as Travis Hunter continues to shine at Colorado. During his appearance on "The Money Down" podcast this week, Herring addressed the buzz surrounding Hunter, as experts debate whether he can play both offense and defense in the NFL.
“You gotta make packages for him because he's special, but you can't play him every down,” Herring said. “Guys will be gunning for him. It's a lot to put on a rookie.”
However, earlier this week, former Seattle Seahawks star Richard Sherman was on the "St. Brown Podcast." He said that for Hunter’s size, he’s not a standout as a receiver, though he’s incredibly smooth and athletic.
“I’m sure if he focused on receiver he could be elite, but as a corner, he just looks natural,” Sherman said. “It’s back to catching a ball and he’s in position all the time. He’s breaking right, he has a good feel for it, and it’s so rare.”
As the 2025 NFL draft looms on the horizon, the question remains: Will Travis Hunter make his mark as a wide receiver or cornerback in the pros? Only time will tell.

Travis Hunter has shown his skill on both sides of the ball
Four games into the 2024 season, Hunter has shown his skill on both sides of the ball. As a cornerback, he's faced 14 throws in his direction, allowing just 11 catches for a mere 75 yards. He’s also snagged an interception and broken up a pass.
On offense, Hunter’s making waves as a wide receiver. CBS Sports reports he’s racked up 472 receiving yards, the sixth-most in the nation, with 37 receptions, ranking him fourth in catches among FBS receivers. He’s even forced seven missed tackles along the way.
Heading into Saturday's game at UCF (3:30 p.m. ET on FOX), Hunter stands among the best in the country, ranking sixth in receiving yards, fifth in receptions, and placing near the top for Power 4 receivers.
