"He'll opt out of throwing at the Combine": Former Jets Scout drags Shedeur Sanders through the mud after he accepts Shrine Bowl invite
Former New York Jets scout Daniel Kelly believes Shedeur Sanders doesn't want to get caught off guard as he prepares to head up to the NFL. This was his deduction from the fact that Shedeur Sanders accepted an invite, alongside other Colorado players, to the East versus West Shrine Bowl scheduled to be played in January.
Here's what the former scout had to say on the topic, in a post on X/Twitter on Wednesday:
"Now it makes sense…Shedeur Sanders didn’t want to risk throwing to receivers he wasn’t familiar with in front of the #NFL
"He’ll opt out of throwing at the Combine also — mark it on your calendars. And then he’ll control who he throws the ball to also at his Pro Day. Got it."
Sanders will be able to count on Buffaloes wide receivers LaJohntay Wester, Will Sheppard and Jimmy Horn Jr., arguably making his job easier than if he were to throw to unfamiliar receivers at the NFL Combine.
Sanders, who's currently among the top 10 favorites to win the Heisman, will undoubtedly be a top pick in the 2025 NFL draft with many assuming he will be a first round pick.
Deion Sanders is looking for the right fit for Shedeur Sanders
It's no secret that the quarterback's career is a priority for his coach (and father) Deion Sanders. "Coach Prime" intends to remain an important stakeholder when his son makes the transition to the big league. He said on an episode of "Speak on FS1" last week that he would intervene if he thought a franchise that was about to draft his son wasn't the right fit.
"Yeah, but I’m not going to do it publicly. I’m going to do it privately," Sanders said.
He went on to explain the kind of organization he wants to draft his son:
"I’m not going to give you regions. I’ll give you understanding: Somebody that can handle the quarterback that he is," Sanders said.
"Somebody that can handle what he’s capable of. Someone that has had success in the past handling quarterbacks or someone in an organization that understands what they’re doing. Not just throwing you out there amongst the wolves if you don’t have the support in the infrastructure of the team," he added.
Shedeur Sanders has perhaps already been thrown to the wolves, with 52 sacks in 2023 and 31 so far in 2024. Nonetheless, he has proven himself by leading Colorado to an 8-2 overall record while recording 3,222 yards with 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
