"He needs to say that again": CFB insider delivers clear message to Coach Prime amid Travis Hunter's Heisman battle with Ashton Jeanty

The 2024 Heisman Trophy race appears to have gone down to the wire, with Travis Hunter and Ashton Jeanty, the two favorites to win the award. With just over a week to go before the Heisman winner is announced, college football insider RJ Young has given Colorado coach Deion Sanders a clear message on what Coach Prime needs to do if he wants Hunter to win the coveted college football honor.

On Tuesday's episode of "The Number One College Football Show," Young explained that Sanders needs to reiterate Hunter's stellar Week 14 performance vs. Oklahoma State in the coming days.

"[Coach] Prime has said that he [Hunter] clinched the Heisman Trophy after the Oklahoma State game," Young said. "That's true, (but) he needs to say it again, and again, and again." [9:28]

Young also went on to heap praise on Hunter, hyping his two-way ability.

Hunter was the spark in offense and defense for Colorado in the 52-0 win over Oklahoma State. He posted 116 yards on 10 receptions and caught a season-high three touchdowns. In defense, he recorded added a tackle, two passes defended and an interception.

Travis Hunter finished the regular season with 92 catches for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns as a wideout. He also tallied 31 tackles, 11 passes deflected, four interceptions, and one forced fumble as a defensive back across 12 games for Colorado.

The Buffs will play a bowl game later in December. However, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty will have one more game where he can boost his Heisman credentials to pip Hunter.

The Broncos will play in the Mountain West title game on Friday, where they will take on the No. 22 UNLV Rebels (10-2, 6-1 Mountain West). Jeanty, who has been excellent this season, can surpass Hunter in the Heisman voting if he drops another solid outing.

Jeanty has recorded a whopping 2,288 yards and 28 touchdowns on 218 carries. He also added 102 receiving yards and a touchdown on 18 receptions in 12 games for No. 10 Boise State (11-1, 7-1 Mountain West).

The Heisman finalists will be announced on Monday, December 9, and the award ceremony will take place on Dec 14.
