Shilo Sanders is participating in OTAs with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Sanders faces tough competition at safety from Marcus Banks and Kaevon Merriweather. If he doesn’t make the 53-man roster, he remains a candidate for the practice squad.
Shilo Sanders’ intelligence and vocal leadership reportedly “turned the head” of Todd Bowles (Buccaneers HC) throughout rookie minicamp.
Sanders' footwork was also reportedly "maybe the most impressive" of any rookie safety that participated in practice.
Sanders has an advanced early grasp of NFL defenses and that reportedly showed through his adjustments on the field throughout individual and team drills.
Several Buccaneers coaches reportedly believe Sanders has shown "promising signs" that he can have a successful NFL career.

Bucs coach Todd Bowles praised Sanders’ ability and left the door open for him to earn a roster spot.
“I think he’s a good football player. He’s a heck of a tackler and he knows the game very well," Bowles said on SiriusXM. "So giving him a chance to play, we think he has a shot to help us."
The Buccaneers will open the 2025 NFL season on Sept. 7 against the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET. Their first preseason game is on Aug. 10 against the Tennessee Titans.
