"He's one of the easiest guys to go to battle for every single Saturday": Quinn Ewers' teammate shares his admiration for Texas QB

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers led his team to a dominating 31-12 victory over the then-No. 10 Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor on Saturday. Among the favorite targets for Ewers on the day was tight end Gunnar Helm, who caught seven receptions for 98 yards and one touchdown.

On Monday, during a conversation with college football analyst Paul Finebaum, the senior tight end out of Cherry Creek High School spoke about his partnership with Ewers on and off the field.

"He's one of the easiest guys to go to battle for every Saturday," Helm told Finebaum.
"So, you know, we're really comfortable with him. The chemistry is there. Quinny is one of my good buddies off the field too. So, you know, I think him and I connect really well. And he, you know, he'll do anything for anybody on this team. And I think that shows his true colors for sure."

Quinn Ewers happy for Gunnar Helm after his impressive showing

Gunnar Helm couldn't get a good number of games due to the presence of Ja’Tavion Sanders on the Longhorns roster. But now that Sanders has moved on to the NFL, playing for the Carolina Panthers, this season is the best opportunity for Helms to showcase his draft stock and potentially get drafted next year.

He certainly had a great outing on Saturday, and if he keeps up with the momentum and chemistry with Quinn Ewers, the ceiling will be high.

“Gunnar’s just a classic example of a guy coming in and putting his head down,” Ewers said. “Gunner is one of my closest buddies on the team, so it was awesome to see him have a game like this.” [via Houston Chronicle].

Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian also praised Gunnar Helm for his impressive performance against a highly-ranked opponent.

"He's a warrior for us," Sarkisian said. "He a lot of times kind of got overshadowed the last couple years with (Ja'Tavion Sanders), but was a really viable player for us a year ago and served a big role for us. But then coming into this season, I thought Gunnar did a great job of getting himself in tip-top shape."

Quinn Ewers and the No. 2 Longhorns will be at home playing against the UTSA Roadrunners this Saturday.
