"He's one of a kind": Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase has eye-catching remarks about Travis Hunter's insane athleticism
NFL stars will soon see Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter wreak havoc in 2025. Some of them are already singing praise for the top Heisman contender.
The latest to join the wagon is Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, who termed Hunter a "one of a kind" player.
"Yeah, I watched a little bit," Chase told reporters. "He's a crazy athlete. He's one of a kind. That's all I can say. He's one of a kind."
When reporters asked whether Hunter can continue playing both as cornerback and wide receiver when he plays in the NFL, Chase said that it's difficult, sharing his own experience.
"I don't know one person who did it besides him. I could sit there and play, but I’m not doing it. I know he’s tired," Chase added.
"You’ve really got to be in shape for that—to be playing both sides. I salute him for it because I know I wouldn’t do it. That’s too much running. Les Miles tried to get me to play DB, and I didn’t do it."
As for Travis Hunter, the two-way star has been adamant to continue playing both sides of the ball even when he reaches NFL. However, rarely would an NFL coach allow him to do that, as it poses a significant risk of injury.
Another NFL WR finds Travis Hunter's skillset unique
What Travis Hunter does day in and day-out is almost unprecedented. The closest modern-day comparison one could do would be LA Dodgers two-way star Shohei Ohtani who's a top pitcher and slugger in the majors.
New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers also shared his praise for the Buffs star during his interaction with reporters.
“He’s hit a thousand yards as a receiver — that’s hard to do,” Nabers told reporters. “And I think he got double-digit touchdowns as a receiver too. That’s especially tough when you’re going into a game knowing the defense is keying in on you, and yet you’re still as explosive as he is.
“Then he goes on defense and locks down his side of the field. They don’t want to throw his way, but he’s still able to get interceptions and shut down receivers. I think that’s what makes him such a unique player. He’s the best player in college football. When you can play both sides at such a high level like he does, there’s no doubt about it.”
Travis Hunter arguably deserves all the praise he's getting. After all, he put on a special season which has his Heisman odds as high as -10,000.
The best competition he has is Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, whose odds are at +2500. That's a big difference, with only two days remaining until the Heisman announcement on Saturday.
