“Horrible decision” “Massive”: CFB fans left debating as Michigan flips 4-star safety Ivan Taylor from Notre Dame
Four-star safety Ivan Taylor switched his commitment from Notre Dame to Michigan on Monday afternoon. According to On3's Hayes Fawcett on X (formerly Twitter), Ivan, the son of former NFL cornerback and two-time Super Bowl champion Ike Taylor, will now play for coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines.
Ivan had committed to the Fighting Irish last December after four visits to Notre Dame, despite strong interest from Florida State, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Louisville. Now, he stands as Michigan's top recruit for 2025, surpassing four-star safety Kainoa Winston.
College football fans had mixed reactions to Taylor's decision.
"Horrible decision, young man," one fan posted on X.
"Massive!" another wrote.
"Notre Dame broke LOL," another commented.
"Can't blame him. ND is not a top team," one fan tweeted.
"Sounds like an untrustworthy individual. He can't honor his commitment. Don't want him on the team. No backbone," one tweeted.
"After UM goes 8-4, he will flip again," another wrote on X.
Ivan Taylor and coach LaMar Morgan can talk football endlessly
With Ivan Taylor, Michigan's recruiting class includes four-star defensive linemen Nathaniel Marshall and Jaylen Williams, and four-star offensive tackle Avery Gach. Taylor told 247Sports:
"I like Coach Wink [Martindale], I like Coach [LaMar] Morgan, and I like Coach Moore," Taylor said. "I think they're all great people, and it was a really good time on the official visit getting to know them and getting to know their families as well."
Reflecting on the visit, Taylor said he and coach Morgan could have talked about football endlessly.
"Me and coach Morgan could have talked ball for days," Taylor said. "We were in there just talking, learning the plays, what they do, what their system is, and where I'll be in their system."
Understanding the system, he discussed his role within it.
"They said (I'd play) the free safety position,” Taylor said. “A lot of colleges have been saying nickel, and I think they're really the first ones to say free safety."
According to Wolverines Wire, Michigan's starting lineup could feature Alex Orji, Jack Tuttle or Davis Warren, with one of the remaining players as the backup. The Wolverines will kick off their season on Aug. 31.
