"I just think he's better than all of them": Travis Hunter's Heisman chances get major boost with football legend's approval
Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter is enjoying a stellar 2024 season thus far. The wideout/cornerback has also been in conversation for the Heisman Trophy this season and has gotten a solid vote of approval from three-time national championship-winning football coach Urban Meyer.
While discussing this year's Heisman contenders on "The Triple Option" with Rob Stone and Mark Ingram, Meyer said he backed Hunter to win the coveted college football honor.
"The Heisman, the way — every year you have that argument," Meyer said. "Is it the best player on the best team? Is it a quarterback? The Heisman is for the best player in college football and I really think this guy — those guys are really good — I just think he’s just a little bit better than all of them. Matter of fact, he’s better and it’s Travis Hunter.
"He’s the best player in the game right now. I would draft him with the first pick. This is after now I’ve researched what kind of person he is too."
Meyer's last coaching job was brief when he was with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021. He was fired during his first year with the franchise after posting a 2-11 record.
Since then, Meyer has transitioned into a football analyst and is currently working with Fox.
