“I'm glad the players” - Popular singer Kenny Chesney expresses support for the current state of college football
The world of college athletics, specifically college football, has been going through some critical changes over the last few years. With the players getting paid through Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals, people have been viewing college football as a professional sport.
Not everyone is happy though with this change. It has begun to sour some people off of the sport.
Appearing on Thursday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show, country singer Kenny Chesney discussed how he is not having any issues with the current state of college football.
"I'm still gonna watch it. I don't care if they're getting paid, I'm glad they are getting paid... I'm still gonna watch, I still love the sport. I grew up watching college football with my father, growing up in Knoxville so we didn't have a pro allegiance to anything... I'm still gonna watch Tennessee play football, I don't care how much it changes."
The ratings for college football have stayed up. It will be interesting to see how things look as college athletics continues to change.
What should we expect from the Tennessee Volunteers in 2024?
The Tennessee Volunteers are in a great spot heading into the 2024 college football season as the program was able to win nine games last season. The big change is going to be under center as starting quarterback Joe Milton III was selected in the 2024 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.
The Vols had an outstanding season as they gave up 22.0 points per game last season and have a relatively easier schedule this upcoming season. Expect Tennessee to be in the race for the SEC Championship.
After finishing third in the SEC East, they just need to improve in conference play. With games against Alabama and Georgia this season, they should be in contention for one of the 12 College Football Playoff spots.
