“I'm very healthy” - Notre Dame star Riley Leonard gives fans an injury update as he wins MPA Air It Out title

After returning from injury, Riley Leonard is gearing up for a crucial 2024 season. His performance at the Manning Passing Academy (MPA) in Louisiana has fans buzzing.

Leonard, who suffered an ankle injury last season while playing against the Irish, surprised the CFB world on his return by winning the Air It Out Championship, proving he’s back in top form. During his time at the MPA, Leonard addressed concerns about his health, stating,

"I'm very healthy. If you were walking around in my body you wouldn't know you had any injuries in the first place. Feeling good, there's no limitations with anything workout-wise that I'm doing, so I feel good." [00:01]

This reassurance relieves Notre Dame fans, who are eager to see their star new QB lead the team to victory this season. Ankle injuries are funny and can linger on for months, hindering an athlete’s career development. However, Riley Leonard is confident in his recovery.

"There are a lot of different things that I've been able to improve in my body as far as rotational things, arm strength, that I've been able to focus on while rehabbing my injury that I think I can really improve on," he explained.

With spring practice just around the corner, Leonard’s update is a positive sign for the Irish faithful.

CFB analyst give their take on Fighting Irish QB Riley Leonard

Notre Dame's QB is the talk of the town ahead of the 2024 season. CFB analysts Andy Staples and Clark Brooks of On3 have shared their insights on what the quarterback brings to the table for the Fighting Irish.

“He executes core concepts very, very well,” Brooks stated. “While I might have some qualms with his ability to throw downfield and be a downfield producer, his processing power, his cerebral approach to the game is in a class of its own compared to this current crop.”

The ability to keep plays alive with his legs [if healthy obviously] adds a dynamic element to Leonard’s game. Health remains a critical factor for the 21-year-old. He provided an encouraging update, saying,

“Feeling good. There’s no limitations to anything workout-wise that I’m doing.”

Before he got injured playing for Duke last season, he led the ACC in yards per attempt among quarterbacks and also boasted a low drop-back conversion sack ratio.
