"In interviews, 'less is best'" - When Arch Manning revealed golden advice he received from grandfather Archie Manning
Arch Manning comes from football royalty. His uncles, Eli and Peyton Manning, are multiple-time Super Bowl winners while his grandfather Archie also played 14 years in the NFL.
In December last year, Manning opened up about his first season at Texas while spilling the beans on some advice he received from his grandfather, Archie [Timestamp: 4:15].
"I talk to my dad and my grandfather. My grandfather always likes to say "In interviews, less is best.'" Manning said via WGNO-TV .
Archie played college football at Ole Miss. In 1971, the New Orleans Saints drafted him second overall. He also played for the Houston Oilers and the Minnesota Vikings.
Arch played just one game in the 2023 season which was in Texas' blowout win over Texas Tech. He completed two of five passes for 30 yards in the third quarter.
After being the Longhorns' third-string quarterback last season, he has served as the backup to starting quarterback Quinn Ewers this season. Manning is likely to get the starting role at Texas next season since Ewers is expected to enter the 2025 NFL draft.
Arch Manning advised to declare for NFL draft after two years as a starter at Texas
Arch Manning will be eligible to enter the 2026 NFL draft. However, agents and scouts have reportedly advised the quarterback to remain at Texas for two years as a starter before going pro.
This is mainly because NFL teams want the finished product ready for picking at the draft. Teams in the big league reportedly do not want to spend time developing a quarterback.
Hence, there are suggestions that Manning could remain at Texas for an extra year, before declaring for the 2027 draft.
Despite serving as a backup to Ewers this season, Manning has impressed many. He has thrown for 939 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions, while also posting 81 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
