Garrett Nussmeier made his SEC Media Days appearance in Dallas on Monday. The LSU Tigers quarterback interacted with the media on the first day of the four-day event at the Omni Hotel, sporting a pastel blue suit. Photos of his outfit went viral on social media:

Nussmeier has been with Brian Kelly's LSU since 2021, playing as the backup to Jayden Daniels since 2022. With Daniels making the jump to the NFL through the draft this year, the junior QB has finally gotten a chance to start at Baton Rouge. As the son of the Philadelphia Eagles QB coach Doug Nussmeier, he has a lot to prove in the upcoming season.

Nussmeier has mostly played from the bench so far during his stint under Coach Kelly. After playing four games and redshirting in his true freshman year, he became Daniels' backup, who transferred from Arizona State in 2022. After starting just one game last season, he now has the responsibility of being the QB1 for the Tigers, and the expectations are high in Baton Rouge.

Garrett Nussmeier has big shoes to fill, as his predecessor ended his college career with a big year. Jayden Daniels won the Heisman Trophy last season, making Nussmeier’s job a tad bit more challenging. But his head coach thinks he is ready for the challenge.

Brian Kelly's message for Garrett Nussmeier

Brian Kelly praised his QB1 Garrett Nussmeier during his SEC Media Days 2024 appearance on Monday. The LSU head coach used a car analogy to get his message about his new leader across:

“Now, it’s his car and you can see the way he’s driving, he’s very proud of this car. You can see the leadership coming together as the starting quarterback and it’s really fun to watch."

Nussmeier has registered a total of seven interceptions in his stint with the Tigers so far. He had two turnovers in four appearances in 2021. The number rose to four in seven appearances in 2022. Last year, he had seven more field appearances, including one start, and registered one interception in that period.
