Saturday night saw an exciting Big Ten matchup between two undefeated teams, the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes and their arch-rivals, the No. 3 Oregon Ducks. As expected, the game was a nail-biter, keeping fans on the edge until the Ducks registered a close 32-31 victory.
The game had many memorable moments, but one that stood out was NFL star quarterback Geno Smith surprising his cousin Jeremiah by showing up to watch him play against the Ducks.
The Seattle Seahawks quarterback approached Ohio State freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith while he was warming up with his team right before the game. This surprise led to Jeremiah giving Geno Smith a big, heartwarming hug, showing how much he wanted his big brother by his side for one of the biggest games of the season.
Pictures of the same are flooding social media.
While the Ohio State Buckeyes held a 31-29 lead until the last five minutes of the game, Ducks placekicker Atticus Sappington scored a perfect 19-yard field goal, stealing the win from the Buckeyes in the final moments.
Jeremiah Smith once again shone in the game, totaling eight receptions for 91 yards and scoring one touchdown. His touchdown came in the third quarter when Buckeyes QB Will Howard connected with him for a perfect six-yard score.
Jeremiah has emerged as a rising star for the Buckeyes and is also a favorite target of QB Will Howard. In his first five games this season, he has recorded 23 receptions for 453 yards and scored six receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown.
Will Howard's Ohio State and Dillon Gabriel battle in epic game
Ohio State Buckeyes QB Will Howard played brilliantly, but rival QB Dillon Gabriel matched him evenly, sealing victory.
Howard scored the first points of the game by rushing for a one-yard touchdown. He then threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to WR Emeka Egbuka in the second quarter and a six-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiah Smith in the third.
Similarly, Dillon Gabriel threw a 10-yard pass to WR Evan Stewart and a 48-yard touchdown pass to WR Tez Johnson in the second quarter. However, his impressive 27-yard rushing touchdown in the final quarter turned the game for the Ducks, lowering the Buckeyes' lead to 29-28.
However, Howard had a better passing percentage, completing 24 of 29 passes for 270 yards, while Gabriel went 18 of 29 for 300 yards. With the win, the Oregon Ducks are second in the conference, tying their 6-0 record with No. 18 Indiana and No. 4 Penn State.
