There is a lot of news coming out of the Fresno State Bulldogs football program as head coach Jeff Tedford announced he was stepping down. Assistant head coach/linebackers coach Tim Skipper will take over as the interim coach.
There are not too many details currently on what's exactly going on, but questions have arisen about whether Tedford was fired as the head coach of the Fresno State Bulldogs.

The short answer is no, Jeff Tedford was not fired. In a statement released by the Fresno State Football program, coach Tedford explained that he is stepping away from the program due to health reasons.
"It is with sad emotions that following my recent medical check-up, it is clear that due to health concerns, my family and I have made the decision to step aside as Fresno State's head coach and allow someone else to lead the football program ... I look forward to supporting the program in any way that I can as I focus on family and my health," Tedford said in the statement.
It is unknown if he will be able to return this season, or at all, as the exact health concerns were not disclosed. The 62-year-old coach was in his second stint coaching the Bulldogs after he previously resigned due to health following the 2019 season. Tedford returned to the program prior to the 2022 season and stepped away again on December 1, 2023, due to health concerns.
What has Jeff Tedford done as a coach in college football?
Jeff Tedford began his head coaching career in the 2002 season with the California Golden Bears, where he coached until the 2012 season before getting fired.
After a brief hiatus from coaching, he joined the NFL as the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014 under Lovie Smith's staff. However, due to a coronary angioplasty, he was not to able to return. Tedford then joined th BC Lions as a head coach in the Canadien Football League in 2015 before joining Fresno State as the head coach.
